Other organizations SGM works with
The Society is a member of, or otherwise affiliated with, a number of organizations whose work it supports. These include the following.
- The Science Council, which aims to promote the advancement and dissemination of knowledge of and education in science, pure and applied
- The Foundation for Science and Technology, which provides a neutral platform for debate of science and technology issues
- The Society of Biology, an organization representing biological societies and individual members. It addresses issues in biology and is the chartered body for biologists
- Campaign for Science & Engineering in the UK (formerly Save British Science Society), which campaigns for government funding of research and science education, and for recognition of the importance of life sciences in the UK, and Sense about Science, a charitable trust promoting an evidence-based approach to scientific issues in the public domain
- The Parliamentary and Scientific Committee, a forum where MPs, members of the House of Lords and the scientific community meet to discuss science
- The Federation of European Microbiological Societies and the International Union of Microbiological Societies, two internationally active affiliations of microbiological societies
- The Federation of Infection Societies, a group of ten societies involved in medical microbiology and responsible for organizing the annual FIS Conference
- The Royal Institution Science Media Centre and AlphaGalileo, resources for science journalists
- The Society works with the Microbiology in Schools Advisory Committee, the Association for Science Education and the National Centre for Biotechnology Education to support teaching and learning in microbiology
- The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, the UK Serials Group and the Committee on Publication Ethics
