Illustrated Dictionary of Immunology, 3rd edn

J.M. Cruse & R.E. Lewis

CRC Press / Taylor & Francis Group (2009)

Immunology is a growth area of the biological sciences and keeping abreast of the players in this field is increasingly difficult. Thus the idea of a Dictionary of Immunology is interesting, and an illustrated one seems even more useful. This third edition is an extremely useful book, covering a range of subjects in 800 pages that is truly staggering - from alpha-1 antichymotrypsin to zymosan. There are also some very useful appendices. This book should be of value to most biomedical scientists who, these days, need some knowledge of immunology, and therefore it should be in all relevant library collections. Of value is the inclusion of the range of monoclonal antibodies used, or proposed to be used therapeutically in human diseases. The only criticism, and this is of the publisher, not the authors, is of the illustrations. To keep costs down these are in black and white and the book suffers as a consequence.
